Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I have an emergency?

If you have an emergency during office hours, please
call us and we will do our best to see you same day or within 24 hours to either remedy the problem or make you comfortable. If you have an emergency after
hours, please call Dr. Schussler at 513-884-7505 and
she will assist you.

Is it safe to whiten my teeth?

In general, teeth whitening is very safe. However, it should not be overdone. Once or twice a year for a period of 1-3 weeks is usually sufficient with take-home systems or once, in-office, with a take-home touch up kit. We offer both in office and take home options depending on your desire and needs. Note that sensitivity can be an issue with whitening. If you experience this, let us know so we can advise you accordingly.

How will I know when it is time for my checkup?

Since our focus is on keeping your mouth healthy for life, we will try to schedule your checkup before you leave for the day. We will also send you a reminder card and provide you with a call or e-mail to remind you of the time and date.  If you would miss your appointment or are unable to schedule while you are in the office, we will send you a reminder card about a month in advance of your due date.

If my child has an accident and a tooth is broken or knocked out, what do I do?

If the tooth is completely knocked out, rinse the tooth gently in tap water--DO NOT SCRUB-- and put it in a small glass or container of milk. Call the office or Dr. Schussler (if after hours) immediately. Time is critical. Occasionally teeth that have been knocked out can be re-implanted but it must usually be done within two hours of the injury. If a tooth is broken call the office so that we can arrange to see you.

My gums bleed when I brush. Should I be concerned?

Yes. Bleeding during brushing can be a sign of periodontal disease which could eventually lead to bone and tooth loss. In addition, gum disease has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and low birth weight babies. Call us for an appointment so we can examine you.

I am very nervous and scared about coming to the dentist. Is there anything you can
do to help me relax when I am having treatment done?

We offer nitrous oxide and oxygen (laughing gas) to help you relax while you are having treatment. You may watch television during your treatment or listen to music if you like.

How do you ensure patient safety?

We use OSHA recommended techniques for sterilization of all instruments and use barriers on instruments and equipment when possible. We wear gloves and masks and sanitize our hands after each patient.

Where can I learn more about procedures such as crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures,
partials and implants?

Please ask us. We can help educate you through discussion as well as a variety of educational software to make you feel more comfortable with these procedures.

What makes your office any different from any other office I could visit?

You, the patient, are our number one priority. We want you to feel as if you are a part of our family when you are here. We will make sure we address all your needs and concerns but we will never recommend any treatment that is not necessary or that you are uncomfortable with. Our happiness depends upon your happiness.
